The new Catholic bishop for the Catholic Diocese of Machakos will be installed soon this year.
Bishop Norman King’oo Wambua who was introduced to clergy, religious and leaders of the laity in Machakos on Monday by His Grace, Most. Rev. Anthony Muheria who is the Archbishop of Nyeri.
“We have suggested August 25th and are waiting for confirmation from the Holy Father Pope Francis because that decision is made by the Holy See” said Bishop King’oo.
Bishop King’oo was appointed to head Machakos Diocese by Pope Francis on June 23 this year.
The bishop, who has served in the Bungoma Diocese for the last 19 years, said he is happy to serve in Machakos where he was born, adding he will lead in consultation with other church leaders.
Archbishop Muheria expressed gratitude to God and to the Holy Father for appointing the New Shepherd for the Diocese.
“We are all grateful to God for the news of the New Shepherd for our Diocese. On 23rd, June, 2018, the Holy Father appointed Bishop Norman King’oo Wambua as our Bishop of Machakos,” said Archbishop A. Muheria.
The Archbishop revealed that the people of Machakos had been praying for long for a Bishop to lead them. “We have been praying for long, and finally the lord has heard our prayer. We now enter into a period of preparation, both spiritual and planning for the installation of the new Bishop,” he added.
Archbishop Muheria, who is also the acting Apostolic Administrator of Machakos Diocese said he is confident of Bishop King’oo’s leadership given his many years of service.
“He has tremendous experience and so in Machakos we are blessed,” said Muheria.
