In 2017 alone the programmed reached a total of 117 children with disabilities who have been supported to live decent lives. This is indicative of the very many numbers that the programme has supported since 1982. This could not be achieved without the necessary infrastructure and systems; and in this regard the project has established several children homes for the disabled and just to mention afew of them in Machakos and Makueni counties.
In Makueni the programme has supported the establishedment of several small homes for the physically handcapped children such as Kathonzweni, Senda, Unoa, Kikumini, Nzaui,Kaoumoni, Kyale and Ndovea. In addition to this; small homes for the deaf in Makongo and Kakuswini have been established. Amidst all this the programme has helped establish St Patricks vocational and rehabilitation centre.
In Machakos County the programme has seen the establishment of several other small homes that take care of the children with disabilities. This small homes include:- St. Francis Misyani, Ndovoini, Masinga, Kikumini, kithyoko, Tala and Kaloleni for the Physically handcapped.
These small homes are made to improve access to education and healthcare services to children with disabilities within the society. Much of the management of these small homes is undertaken by the community under guidance of Caritas Machakos. This has seen children with disabilities be able to attend school like any other normal children.
